Getting Started
-
The first step is to schedule a free 15 minute consultation or contact me directly me via this website. The consultation is a great chance to talk over the phone and see if I am a good match for your needs and if our personalities “gel”. After we chat, I will email you everything you need to get started if you decide you’d like to move forward with me. You won’t have to make that decision on the spot over the phone. You will have time to consider and start the process when you’re ready.

The first session, also called the intake session is about 75-90 minutes long. This session is all about getting to know each other and seeing for yourself if you feel comfortable with my approach and style. I will ask you questions about your background, your day to day experience, what brought you to therapy now, and what you’re hoping to get out of our work together. This information will allow me to determine the best therapeutic path forward and make recommendations as appropriate. I will answer any questions you may have about me or the therapy process. I will not put any pressure on you to share before you are ready.
All following sessions are 55 minutes long.

Most clients begin with weekly sessions but the frequency and regularity of therapy depends on your goals and needs. We can discuss what kind of schedule feels most supportive for you during our first meeting.
-
Not at all. Many people begin therapy simply knowing that something isn't working or that they need more support to make things change for the better. We will spend time making sense of what's bringing you to therapy and together, figure out where to begin.

Having been on both sides of the proverbial couch, my top two tips for finding the right therapist are this:
Trust your gut, and
Give it a chance
Some people know right away when it’s a good fit and when it’s not. Trust what you feel when we meet and know that I will never take it personally if it’s just not working for you. In fact, I will encourage you to go make the most of your time with someone who really does feel right for you.
If it’s not clear right away, I would say give it a chance. To me, that means giving it 4-6 weeks. If you can imagine yourself one day opening up to me (even if you haven’t yet) that’s a pretty good sign. Otherwise, no hard feelings. Go find the right one for you!
When I sought my own therapy the main things I knew I needed to feel were respect for the person sitting across from me, a feeling that they were not going to “let things slide”, and a sense of safety that most immediately comes for me in the form of a shared sense of humor.
Telehealth
-
At this time, I only offer virtual therapy.
-
All sessions are held through a secure, HIPPA-compliant video platform via Headway. Once you’ve created your Headway account and submitted the required paperwork and payment info, everything you need will be either in your Headway client portal or sent to you via email.
The link to join your virtual session will be emailed to you one day before each session. Simply click that link and enter the video chat.
To make the most of your time, I recommend finding a spot in your home where you can sit comfortably for 55 minutes, where you have privacy from any listening ears at home, and have a reliable internet connection. Bonus points for water and tissues near by!
-
Virtual therapy is a great fit for many people. You don’t have to commute and you can be comfortable in your own space. For some, it can be the things that makes getting support possible when access to in-person therapy is challenging or not possible. Most people really appreciate the time saving and comfort benefits.
That being said, there are some instances where in-person therapy may be more appropriate. We can discuss your specific needs during our consultation or first session and determine if it’s right for you.
Kids
-
Yes, telehealth can be a great fit for kids who are developmentally ready for this format. In general, that age is usually around 10 but could be even for younger kids who can
maintain attention for 55 minutes
navigate the basics of the virtual platform such as adjusting the volume and positioning the camera
demonstrate trustworthiness if left alone with a Wi-Fi capable device
be safely left unsupervised by caregivers in a room with a closed door during the session to maintain their privacy
In some cases in-person therapy would be more appropriate. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs further.
-
Absolutely. My goal is to create a partnership with you at the same time that I am building a therapeutic relationship with your child. When we unify in your child’s best interests we create a sense of security and sturdy leadership for your kiddo that is in and of itself very therapeutic.
In general, I ask caregivers to participate in the first initial intake session. After this, I will ask you to check in with me briefly about twice a month to go over your child’s progress and any changes in circumstances. This can be popping into the first 15 minutes of their session or a quick scheduled phone call.
One of the ways I protect your child’s time for therapy will be by making a separate appointment with you for our more in-depth adult conversations regarding care or background that are best had without younger ears listening in.
If we seem to need even more regular time for checking in and debriefing, I will recommend a dedicated session just for you called parent support. See Services & Specialties below for more details.
-
I do! Depending on what’s going on, we can discuss if having separate or joint sessions would be more effective.
-
I provide therapy for adults, couples, teens, and children age 10+ living in Virginia and Colorado.

I frequently work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting challenges, neurodivergence, disordered eating, grief, life transitions, and relationship concerns. If you're unsure whether your concerns fit within my areas of focus, please feel free to reach out for a free consultation or contact me directly.

Parent support is a special kind of care that I provide that can look a few different ways depending on your needs. It may be right for you if:
I already provide therapy for your child and it seems you and I need more time each week to discuss things.
You are seeking support with parenting in general and your child is already receiving care elsewhere.
You don’t feel like you’re showing up in your parenting the way you want to and you know in your heart there has to be a better way.
Sometimes parent support feels like coaching as I provide evidence-based strategies and interventions for you to implement at home. Other times it’s a therapy session just for you that feels totally unrelated to parenting (but it’s usually all connected!). It’s really whatever you need it to be so you can show up as the parent you want to be for your sweet kiddo.
